Based on your own experiences and understandings, what does belonging mean to you? There is a difference between simply being invited in and truly belonging. An invitation at the door is often seen as enough, but belonging does not just happen. It requires intention, curiosity, care, and compassion. An active effort to welcome individuals and meet them where they are. To me, belonging means being valued beyond presence and included through genuine relationships. I believe in belonging because I value people and their humanity.

What’s one risk you’ve taken in your own pathway to belonging, and what did you learn from taking that risk?
A person’s pathway to belonging is shaped by both intentional and unintentional experiences that influence their role within a community and their relationships with others. One of the greatest risks I have taken in my own pathway to belonging is choosing vulnerability. Being vulnerable requires intentionality. It means allowing yourself to be seen as your true self. This is where the most authentic sense of belonging is formed.
Through this experience, I have learned that taking risks comes with uncertainty, and rejection is always a possibility. However, I have also learned that allowing fear and uncertainty to guide decisions can prevent meaningful connection. Choosing vulnerability has shown me that the reward of feeling valued, seen, and accepted far outweighs the risk, and it has helped me grow both within communities and as a person.

What do you enjoy outside of work? I am happiest when I’m with my family, laughing together, and enjoying a good maple latte.
