Brittany Sterrett, PhD, is a senior researcher at the American Institutes for Research (AIR) who provides technical assistance, professional development, and research supports to various states and school districts in the areas of special education best practices and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS). Through this work she creates and leads professional development trainings and provides coaching services to tailor supports to schools and their staff related to best instructional practices. Additionally, she was part of the evaluation team for a large-scale IES funded research project focusing on transition supports for youth with disabilities. Dr. Sterrett’s professional and research interests include MTSS; intensive interventions; adaptation of evidence-based practices to address students’ academic, behavior, and social needs; and professional development to support teachers with these processes. Prior to joining AIR, she was a National Center for Leadership in Intensive Interventions scholar and special education teacher in Virginia. Dr. Sterrett earned her PhD and MEd in special education at Virginia Commonwealth University, and a BA in political science from Virginia Tech.
